Noah Syndergaard sent hundreds of Mets fans running to their ledges last night after he allowed three runs to score in the first inning. However when all was said and done, the big righthander delivered another solid outing, striking out a season high ten batters and walking none in his six innings of work.
The final tally was four earned runs which was more the result of the environment than any lack of dominance on the part of the Mets’ top pitching prospect.
One thing that that one of our writers pointed out last night, was the number of hits that Syndergaard has allowed this season, currently at 48 hits in 43.2 innings pitched, and it is a valid concern.
However, the environment in Las Vegas has been known to play tricks with many a slider or curve, a great deal of them never breaking at all and leaving a fat hanger over the plate. So I’m not that overly concerned.
Syndergaard threw 104 pitches on the evening, 77 of them for strikes. His ERA now stands at 3.92 for the season – an excellent mark for the Pacific Coast League – and in fact Thor ranks 7th in the league among pitchers with 40 or more innings pitched.
While the Mets consider bringing up Jacob deGrom or Rafael Montero in the very near future – and by near I mean next week – Syndergaard will remain neatly tucked away in the desert until his Super 2 eligibility date passes sometime in mid to late June.
You should all be excited for his impending arrival as this kid is the real deal and no scouts deny that.
