The Mets needed Noah Syndergaard to put forth a stellar performance in the worst way. Thor obliged, helping to carry the Mets back to .500 with a 2-0 victory over San Francisco.

Thor was efficient through the night, pitching eight shutout innings on just 98 pitches. He allowed only two hits while walking the same amount and striking out six. Looking like the Syndergaard of old, he breathed life into what seemed a dwindling Mets season.

“For the past month and a half, I feel like today was the first day I went out there and I actually relaxed,” Syndergaard said. (NY Post)

Noah picked up the win Sunday night, improving his record to 11-7 on the season. He has now won two consecutive games, as his ERA dropped to 2.61 while his WHIP stands at 1.16.

Many were hoping that Thor would go out for the ninth to get the complete game. He had Giants hitters on the ropes all night, but Syndergaard had no issue with giving way to Mets closer, Jeurys Familia.

“I thought it would be just the best decision to hand it over to the best closer in the game and get a win and get back on the bus and go to St. Louis,” Syndergaard said.

Having Syndergaard return to form gives this team some hope as they head into St. Louis for a pivotal three-game series. The Mets wish to carry the momentum from these final two games in San Francisco all the way to Busch Stadium.
