Noah Syndergaard made his third start of the season on Friday against the Miami Marlins and Edinson Volquez. Things did not come as smoothly as usual for the ace, though the finished product was solid.

Thor went six innings and gave up six hits, no walks, two runs, and one earned run while striking out four Marlins. At 87 pitches he could’ve went longer in the game, but was taken out after he tore his fingernail back. It was originally speculated that the blister was what knocked him out of the game, but the media was informed after the game that it was his fingernail instead.

”It’s just unfortunate because I wanted to stay in the game as long as I can,” Syndergaard told media after the game. “It’s frustrating when little hiccups like this take you out of the game. Long game last night; I really wanted to stay out there as long as I could and give the bullpen a break.”

The fact that it was his fingernail rather than the blister is good news for the 24 year-old. He said he will get fake nails put on his middle and index fingers before his next start. He should be good for his next start and made light of the issue.

“I have an excuse to get a mani-pedi now,” Syndergaard told Anthony DiComo of MLB.com and other media members.

This can be considered Syndergaard’s worst start out of his three so far as he gave up the most hits and had the least amount of strikeouts. That is saying something as it was a great start and a winnable one for the Mets nonetheless.

The team could’ve used a healthy Syndergaard after the 16 inning marathon on Thursday, but in the end he did last 1.1 more innings than Volquez. A day after scoring nine runs, it was the Mets offense that made the team fall short.

Syndergaard has now thrown 25 consecutive walk-free regular season innings. He has 28 strikeouts in that span.
