While talking to reporters today at Tradition Field, Mets young ace Noah Syndergaard had this to say about how he feels when he’s on the hill: ” I try to be as intimidating as possible. I try to use that as a weapon of mine. I feel like I’m on top of the world when I’m on the mound.”
Syndergaard set the tone for Game 3 of the World Series at Citi Field when he brushed Royals’ lead-off hitter Alcides Escobar off the plate with a 98 MPH fastball. The Mets would go on to win the game 9-3 on the strength of Thor’s hammer – their lone win of the series.
After the game, Syndergaard was quoted as saying, “If they have a problem with me throwing inside, then they can meet me 60 feet, six inches away. I’ve got no problem with that.”
You’ve got to love the toughness and intensity that Syndergaard brings to the table when he’s on the mound.
After losing out on a roster spot out of Spring Training one year ago, Thor got to work and made it his mission to make an impact at the major league level, and he did just that.
The 23 year old flamethrower was rewarded with a call-up in May, and pitched to a 9-7 record with a 3.24 ERA to complement 166 strikeouts in his rookie campaign.
In regards to pitching against the Royals in the opening series of the season, Syndergaard said: “Of course. I think everybody would want to pitch in one of those two games.” He added, “I think it’s going to be a little bit different — very intense. I’m not really sure what to expect. But it’s going to be fun. And I’m looking forward to it.”
