noah syndergaard - las vegas 51s

I love a good redemption story, and last night in Las Vegas Mets prospect Noah Syndergaard provided a great one.

After getting his start skipped last Friday because of a severe case of food poisoning that required IV fluids, Syndergaard was trolled by some fans on Twitter for being “too soft.”

After Syndergaard took offense and tried to defend himself, some Mets bloggers and baseball writers rushed to publicize the exchange and make it a bigger issue than it needed to be. A few of them even painted Syndergaard as the bad guy. A pretty shifty thing to do to one of our own.

As fate would have it, the 22-year old righty took to the mound on Monday night and delivered the most dominating performance of his Triple-A career.

Syndergaard was flat-out filthy and displayed the devastating curve and scintillating fastball that made him one of the top pitching prospects in baseball.

The hard-throwing youngster tossed a seven-inning complete game shutout in front of an enthusiastic home crowd at Cashman Field. He held Albuquerque to just two hits and no walks while striking out nine.

Thor displayed a great command of his pitches all evening long and even sported an improved changeup that accounted for two of his strikeouts. It was total and complete domination, and his confidence was plain to see. This was the Syndergaard that scouts have been drooling over.

It was a perfect exclamation point to what was a tough week for Syndergaard. Way to go kid… Ignore the haters and keep doing what you do, you’ll be in Citi Field soon enough.
