Syndergaard, Conforto Among Top 50 Young Players in MLB

Sporting News had their staff vote on the Top 50 young players in Major League baseball with the criteria being that they’re under 27 years old.

The New York Mets had two players on the list with outfielder Michael Conforto coming in at No. 22 and right-handed starter Noah Syndergaard being the top Met ranked at No. 20.

Conforto, 24, hit .279/.384/.555 with 20 doubles, 27 home runs and 68 RBI in a monster bounce back season that was unfortunately cut short in August by a freak shoulder injury.

Conforto will enter the 2018 season at 25-years-old with a career 126 wRC+ and two defensive runs saved in 274 major league games to this point.

Syndergaard missed a huge chunk of the 2017 season with a partially torn lat muscle but was able to come back late in the year. The 25-year-old went 1-2 with a 2.97 ERA and 1.06 WHIP in 30.1 innings this season.

For his career, Syndergaard is 24-18 with a 2.89 ERA, 1.10 WHIP, 2.60 FIP, 10.3 K/9 and 5.43 SO/W over 364 innings.

The Atlanta Braves have two players on the list (RHP Julio Teheran, OF Ender Inciarte), Washington Nationals have two (SS Trea Turner, OF Bryce Harper, Philadelphia Phillies have two as well (RHP Aaron Nola, OF Odubel Herrera) and the Miami Marlins have the most of any National League East team with three (C J.T. Realmuto, OF Christian Yelich and OF Marcell Ozuna).
