Marc Carig of Newsday reported that Steven Matz underwent successful ulnar nerve transposition surgery this morning.

Matz, 26, underwent the same procedure that rotation mate Jacob deGrom underwent at the end of last season. You can read all about what the surgery entails here.

DeGrom got the surgery in September 2016 and was healthy for spring training this year, so it’s fair to assume Matz will be ready to pitch by spring training next season.

Matz did not pitch much this season, and when he did he pitched through pain according to reports. In 13 starts he posted a 6.08 ERA, 5.02 FIP and 1.530 WHIP. In 66.2 innings he struck out 48 and walked 19.
