New York Mets southpaw, Steven Matz came through with a gem of a start that was spoiled by Giancarlo Stanton and the Marlins as the team fell to Miami by a score of 5-2.

After a couple of not so stellar starts for Matz, he came through in a big way Tuesday night. He pitched to seven innings while allowing just two runs on the night. Matz allowed two runs which came as a result of the first of two blasts on the night for Stanton, his only mistake of the night.

“I threw him a changeup because he hadn’t seen that today, and the ball was just up and he put a good swing on it,” Matz said. (ESPN)

The rookie allowed six hits on the night while walking one. He struck out six Marlins on the night as he provided another quality start for the team, his ninth of the season.

“My command was great tonight,” said Matz. “It’s a good sign I’m moving in the right direction. I’m just watching the volume in between starts, managing that.”

Matz took the loss on the night as his record fell to 7-4 on the season. His ERA dropped down to 3.34 after his commanding performance as his WHIP stands at 1.21 in the 2016 campaign. A nice performance to see after Matz had been shaky in his previous two starts, a great step moving forward.
