The New York Post reports that Mets owner Steve Cohen will travel to Southern California next week to meet with superstar free agent Juan Soto and his agent, Scott Boras. Multiple early reports suggest that Cohen is expected to be aggressive in his pursuit of the young star.
Cohen is not expected to be the only owner who will meet with Soto in the coming weeks. While it’s unclear whether the Yankees’ brass intends to meet with Soto, Brian Cashman said the team will meet with Soto as many times as he wants. The Post adds that Cohen may meet with other Boras clients during his visit.
Soto, 26, is coming off a strong season with the Yankees in which he hit .288/.419/.569 with 31 doubles, 41 home runs and 109 RBIs. His 41 home runs are a new career-high and his 180 wRC+ was the second highest of his career.
