The Phillies have agreed to a two-year deal with shortstop Didi Gregorius, according to Jayson Stark of The Athletic.

Gregorius, 30, is perhaps best known for his days a Yankee from 2015-2019. He came up through the Reds organization and made his debut with them. He spent two years with the Diamondbacks, but New York was where he really found his stride and enjoyed the most success.

His peak was between 2017 and 2018, as he posted 8.8 fWAR in the span of those two years. He took a step back in 2019, only playing in 83 games and posting an 83 wRC+.

Gregorius spent 2020 with the Phillies and bounced back for a 117 wRC+, so the Phillies are bringing him back on a two-year, $28 million deal.

Jon Heyman of MLB Network reported that the Reds wanted to bring Gregorius back to where he started, but couldn’t compete with the figure he ended up getting from the Phillies.
