The New York Mets lost today at Roger Dean Stadium in Jupiter to the St. Louis Cardinals by a 6-1 score.

The Mets didn’t get on the board until infielder Phillip Evans hit a solo home run in the top of the ninth inning in his only at-bat of the game.

Michael Conforto continued his great spring with two more hits including a single off lefty Brett Cecil. He’s now 7 for 13 with two home runs this spring.

The only other Met with multiple hits was top prospect Amed Rosario, he went 2 for 3 raising his Grapefruit League average up to .364.

Gavin Cecchini played second base, the day after making pro debut at third, and went 1 for 3 at the dish.

Juan Lagares got his first spring hit with a bunt single after two more hard outs to start the day. He also showed off his cannon of an arm throwing out Randal Grichuk at home.

Right-handed pitching prospect Marcos Molina got the start and took the loss. He went 2.1 innings allowing three runs (one earned, T.J. Rivera error at 3B) on four hits, one walk and zero strikeouts.

Sean Gilmartin gave up three unearned runs in 1.2 innings. Right-handers Ben Rowen, Chase Bradford, Paul Sewald and Corey Taylor combined to throw four hitless innings of relief.

On Deck –

The Mets return to First Data Field on Thursday to take on the Miami Marlins with RHP Robert Gsellman getting his first start of the spring. Lefty Adam Conley will be on the mound for the Marlins. Also expected to pitch for the Mets are RHP Hansel Robles, RHP Jeurys Familia, RHP Addison Reed, RHP Erik Goeddel, LHP Tom Gorzelanny and LHP Jerry Blevins.
