The Mets defeated the Houston Astros by a score of 2-1 this afternoon at the Ballpark of the Palm Beaches.

Pitching:

Jacob deGrom got the nod for the Mets this afternoon and tossed a solid four innings, allowing one run on three hits, while punching out six and walking just one.

Addison Reed pitched a clean fifth, registering two strikeouts, while Cory Burns, Jerry Blevins and Josh Smoker followed suit, each chipping in a scoreless inning of work.

Corey Taylor closed the door for the Mets in the ninth, sealing the win and recording his third save of the spring thus far.

Offense:

The Mets scattered nine hits this afternoon against Houston, but the big blow came off the bat of Yoenis Cespedes in the third, when the Cuban slugger cranked his fifth homer of the preseason to left, a two-run shot that gave the Mets a lead they would not relinquish.

Curtis Granderson went 2-for-3 out of the lead-off spot for the Mets, increasing his spring average to .321, while Michael Conforto, Asdrubal Cabrera, Neil Walker, Dominic Smith, Wilmer Flores and Juan Lagares each tallied hits.

On deck:

The Mets will travel to Roger Dean Stadium to take on the Miami Marlins tomorrow afternoon. Matt Harvey will toe the rubber for New York and will be opposed by Justin Nicolino. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 p.m.
