The Mets played a good old-fashioned PCL game and beat the Chicago Cubs at Cashman Field by the score of 9-4.
Highlights:
Bartolo Colon started the game and pitched 4.2 innings in his second start of the Spring. He allowed 4 earned runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out none. He gave up two home runs and his spring ERA rose to 7.27. After the game, Terry Collins said of Colon, “He’s exactly what’s been advertised, a strike throwing machine.”
The battle for leadoff hitter was a draw today as both Eric Young (2-for-4, BB) and Juan Lagares (1-for-3, 2 BB) were on base three times each. Young (.301) drove in a run and scored one, while Lagares (.324) scored a pair.
Wilmer Flores hit a two-run homer that would put the Mets ahead in the 8th, and David Wright drove in two and scored a run.
The star of the game was Andrew Brown who went 2-for-3 with a walk, scored a run, and picked up 3 RBI’s in the game. He raised his average to .250 for his efforts.
The only starters not to get a hit in cozy Cashman were Curtis Granderson (.200) and Travis d’Arnaud (.160). The rest of the lineup combined for 11 hits and went 7-for-17 with RISP. Save some for Sunday, guys!
Cory Mazzoni struck out the side in the seventh and Bobby Parnell was perfect in the eighth and struck out one. He looked dominating and I’m curious to know what the radar reading was on his fastball.
These Cubs announcers were so awful I could churn out a thousand words just on them. But I wont.
