The New York Mets played their final game of the 2017 at First Data Field against their Triple-A affiliate, the Las Vegas 51s. The Mets scored a run in the bottom of the ninth for the walk-off 5-4 victory over the 51s.
Pitching
Jacob deGrom made his final tuneup for his April 5 start against the Atlanta Braves. He pitched three innings allowing one run on two hits (Jay Bruce solo homer) and struck out one while pitching for the 51s squad.
Right-handed prospect Harol Gonzalez made the start for the Mets. He allowed four runs in six innings on nine hits, two walks and three strikeouts.
Jeurys Familia, Ben Griset, Ben Rowen, Josh Edgin, Joshua Torres and Luis Mateo each threw a scoreless inning.
Offense
T.J. Rivera opened up the scoring in the third inning for the 51s with a two-run homer off Gonzalez. Wilmer Flores (wearing David Wright‘s jersey) followed with a solo homer.
Jay Bruce hit a solo home run off deGrom to get the Mets on the board. Curtis Granderson and Neil Walker drove in fourth inning runs to get the Mets deficit to 4-3.
Outfield prospect Wuilmer Becerra had a game-tying pinch hit RBI single in the seventh inning off Fernando Salas. Rivera, Flores and Travis Taijeron were the only players with two hits in the game.
Lucas Duda sat out the game with a hamstring injury that is not serious and he is fully expected to be ready for Opening Day. Bruce got the start at first base for the Mets today.
Mets long-time bullpen catcher Dave Racaniello singled off deGrom in the first inning, but was thrown out by Travis d’Arnaud when he tried to steal second base.
Xorge Carrillo knocked in the winning run with two outs in the bottom of the ninth for the Mets.
On Deck
The Mets take on the Army baseball squad on Friday at Citi Field. First pitch is scheduled for 1:10 PM. It will be the ninth time the Mets have played an exhibition game vs Army.
