If you needed any further evidence that the 2014 Gold Glove version of Juan Lagares was alive and well, last night’s home run-robbing catch against the Phillies may provide all the proof you’ll need.
Lagares showed his vintage defensive form, leaping to snare a long drive by Maikel Franco and robbing him of a three-run homer in the eighth inning of the Mets’ 11-1 win.
“If there is a better catch so far in baseball than that one I haven’t seen it,” Terry Collins said afterward. “On a dead run, dead fly, you go up against that fence and make that catch – we get spoiled watching it but that’s what we saw two years ago and that’s why he’s got a gold glove sitting on his mantle too.”
Here it is in case you missed it.

Lagares has settled in beautifully into his 4th outfielder role, giving the Mets some added offense against left-handed pitching and coming in late in games as a defensive replacement to make spectacular plays as he did last night. So let’s trade him.
