Las Vegas 51s second baseman Dilson Herrera and Binghamton Mets first baseman Dominic Smith have been selected to represent the Mets in the 2016 Futures Game in San Diego on July 10th.
Smith will be playing on the U.S. roster while Herrera will be playing for Team World.
Herrera, 22, has struggled of late dropping his slash line down to .278/.324/.474 for the season in 291 at bats. He does have 11 home runs already which is just two shy of his career high that he set in 2014.
Smith, 21, has already matched his career in home runs this year with six in 266 at bats in his first taste of Double-A. Overall, he is hitting .259/.317/.383 with 48 RBIs which is fifth in the Eastern League.
Last year, Brandon Nimmo and Michael Conforto participated in the Futures Game. Conforto went 2 for 2 and showed off his strong arm throwing out a runner at home while Nimmo was 1 for 2 with a run batted in.
