The New York Mets lost the first of two exhibition games against the New York Yankees by a score of 9-3. (Box Score) It surely was exciting to see the Mets on our TVs once again, despite them not putting up their best performance.

Pitching

It was a rough day for the Mets pitchers, who would allow a total of nine runs on twelve hits. The defense did not do them any favors, as they had four errors in the game.

Rick Porcello started this game off, lasting five innings, giving up three runs on six hits, and collecting 3 strikeouts. In the first, Gleyber Torres drove in Mike Tauchman with an RBI single. Porcello followed this with two scoreless innings, however he gave up a two-run home run to Clint Frazier in the fourth.

Jeurys Familia pitched an inning and two thirds, giving up one unearned run, however he did not allow a hit and struck out two.

Justin Wilson replaced Familia in the seventh to get the final out of the inning, getting Tauchman to fly out to left field.

Dellin Betances pitched a nearly perfect eighth inning, allowing just one hit.

Edwin Diaz started the ninth inning, collecting a strikeout. Daniel Zamora would replace Diaz and quickly get into trouble, loading the bases with one out. He did not escape the situation, allowing three straight RBI singles, increasing the Yankees lead to 8-2.

Ryley Gilliam replaced Zamora after he could not escape his own jam, allowing a run on a sacrifice fly.

Offense

The Mets were rather lackluster offensively, driving in just three runs on eight hits.

J.D. Davis drove in the first Mets run in the fourth inning, scoring Robinson Cano with an RBI single.

Pete Alonso would follow up Davis in the fifth inning, scoring Brandon Nimmo with his own RBI single. Alonso was the only Met with multi-hits on the evening.

Eduardo Nunez would drive in Amed Rosario in the ninth after Rosario hit a two-out triple.
