According to Dennis Lin of The Athletic, Padres first base coach Skip Schumaker has interviewed for the Mets managerial opening.

Schumaker, Joe Girardi, Luis Rojas, Mike Bell, Eduardo Perez, and Carlos Beltran are the known interviewees. Derek Shelton and Tim Bogar are also expected to interview in-person for the vacancy created by the firing of Mickey Callaway.

Schumaker, 39, played in parts of 11 big league seasons and has spent the last two years as the Padres first base coach.He was an assistant to baseball operations and player development from 2016-17.

The former Cardinal utility-man was represented by CAA as a player, the agency that Mets GM Brodie Van Wagenen was the co-head of until October of 2018.
