After being scratched from his start on Sunday because he was sick, Jacob deGrom pitched 6.1 innings and threw 96 pitches. He struck out 12, walked nobody, and allowed one earned run on seven hits.

DeGrom was pitching in the back fields against minor leagues to keep him from facing the Washington Nationals as Opening Day gets closer.

Noah Syndergaard lost the matchup vs deGrom as he allowed three earned runs in six innings. He settled down after giving up first-inning homers to shortstop prospect Andres Gimenez and catcher Wilson Ramos.

Syndergaard allowed only five hits, walked two, and struck out 12. He threw a spring-high 99 pitches in the outing.

Andres Gimenez homered in his first at-bat against Syndergaard today. The 20-year-old shortstop prospect has hit .250/.333/.500 with a double and home run in 16 at-bats in big league camp.

Gimenez, the Mets No. 1 or No. 2 prospect depending on the publication, will likely start the season in Double-A with the Binghamton Rumble Ponies.

The Mets gave Francisco Alvarez a team record $2.7 million bonus on July 2, 2018. Alvarez was ranked as Baseball America’s No. 9 prospect of the 2018-2019 international free agent period.

It was an impressive showing for 17-year-old Ronny Mauricio, he fought off a tough 0-2 pitch from Jacob deGrom for an infield single. He also had a double off deGrom earlier in the B game.

Mauricio, a switch-hitter, was in multiple national Top 100 prospect lists this offseason including as high as No. 68 in FanGraphs. We have Mauricio as our No. 3 prospect here at MMO.
