MLB Network continued their annual series of ranking the top 10 players at each position in MLB on Saturday and The Shredder ranked New York Mets’ pitcher Seth Lugo as the seventh-best reliever in the game.
Lugo, 30, had a 2.70 ERA, 2.70 FIP, and 0.90 WHIP to go along with 11.7 K/9 as compared to 1.8 BB/9 in 2019. That gave him a 2.2 fWAR over 61 appearances (80 innings).

The Mets considered moving Lugo back to the rotation in 2020, but then signed Rick Porcello and Michael Wacha which now allows him to stay in the bullpen.
While it appears likely Edwin Diaz will reclaim his closer role, Lugo will certainly be waiting in the wings just in case the team needs him to take on a bigger role in 2020.
