After Friday’s loss to the Tampa Bay Rays, Mets manager Carlos Mendoza told reporters that an MRI revealed a Grade 1 hamstring strain for Kodai Senga. Mendoza regarded the development as “relatively good news” all things considered, and the right-hander will be reevaluated in right around two weeks.
Max Kranick was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse in his place, and he allowed two earned runs over 1 2/3 innings in the series opener against Tampa Bay.

Kodai Senga exited his start on Thursday against the Nationals in the sixth inning after sustaining an injury while covering first base. Senga appeared to be grabbing at his hamstring after retrieving a high throw from Pete Alonso on a ground ball hit by CJ Abrams. After a few moments on the ground, the 32-year-old was able to walk off under his own power.
Senga is headed to the injured list with a hamstring strain, and he will get an MRI on Friday to determine the severity.
Senga missed much of the second half of the 2024 season due to a calf strain suffered while running off the mound to back up first base. He was able to return in time for the NLDS, a little over two months later.
With his 5 2/3 scoreless innings Thursday, Senga lowered his National League-leading ERA to 1.47. Earlier in the afternoon, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reported that teams have expressed interest in veteran righty Paul Blackburn. The Mets are expected to get Frankie Montas and Sean Manaea back from the injured list in the coming weeks. Entering the day, the Mets’ starters owned a major league-best 2.84 ERA.
