David Lennon of Newsday reports,

This has to be considered good news. Johan Santana made it through this morning’s bullpen session without interruption. He began the workout by long-tossing with K-Rod at about 150 feet — though Santana was lobbing it compared to Rodriguez — then threw about 19 warmup pitches from the mound, with the catcher in front of the plate.

When Santana finally had the catcher move back into position, he threw 31 pitches, just fastballs and changeups. His velocity seemed fine. I was watching from about 10 feet away — along with GM Omar Minaya and assistant GM Tony Bernazard — and Santana went through his routine without any obvious setbacks.

Afterward, Santana reported no discomfort in his elbow, and now he’s headed back to New York for tests. The Mets will have to wait until he returns to update his throwing schedule and there is no timetable for his next throwing session.

“I feel fine,” Santana said. “It’s the first time in the last four days that I’ve thrown but I feel good. I don’t think there will be any problem.”

Whew…

That is freaking awesome news!!

We’re not out of the woods yet, but definitely music to my ears…
