The New York Post is reporting that former New York Met fan favorite Rusty Staub is currently battling kidney failure in a West Palm Beach, Florida hospital.

Staub, 73, has not been responding to dialysis and his friends are requesting prayers for the Mets icon. The new comes three years after Staub suffered a heart attack on a flight home from Ireland had to be revived by two doctors on board.

Fred and Jeff Wilpon have issued the following statement, “Fred and Jeff Wilpon have each reached out to Rusty to wish him well. In addition, multiple people from our organization has been in contract. All of us wish Rusty and his loved ones well in this courageous battle.”

Staub was a six-time All-Star including once with the Mets in 1972 when he also finished 19th in MVP voting. He played in parts of nine seasons with the Mets.

One of the most beloved personalities in Mets history, our prayers and thoughts go out to Rusty.
