The Mets were defeated by the Kansas City Royals by a score of 7-1 tonight at Kauffman Stadium, and in the process find themselves down 2-0 in the World Series.
Pitching:
Through the first four innings, Jacob deGrom looked like the Jacob deGrom that we have all grown accustomed to. However, in the fifth inning, with the Mets leading 1-0, deGrom surrendered four runs as the Royals batted around and effectively ended the right-hander’s day.
DeGrom went just the five innings, allowing four runs on six hits, while striking out two and walking three.
Hansel Robles pitched a scoreless sixth inning, which was followed by a goose egg in the seventh for Jon Niese.
Niese came back out for the eighth, and didn’t fare as well, as he let up three runs and failed to record an out before being replaced by Addison Reed.
Reed allowed two inherited runs and only recorded one out in the eighth before the Mets went to Sean Gilmartin to close out the inning, which he did, retiring the last two batters.

Offense:
The only Mets run came in the fourth inning, as after Curtis Granderson and Daniel Murphy walked, Lucas Duda drove them in with a single.
However, their opportunities were few and far between, as Johnny Cueto absolutely stymied the Mets, pitching a complete game, allowing just the one run on two hits, while walking three and striking out four.
On deck:
The Mets and Royals are off Thursday, but will travel back to Citi Field for three games starting Friday. For the opener at Citi Field, Noah Syndergaard (9-7, 3.24 ERA) will square off against Yordano Ventura (13-8, 4.08 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 8:00 PM.
