According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, the San Diego Padres are showing interest in trading for New York Mets starter Noah Syndergaard.
The Padres were one of the teams had interest in acquiring Syndergaard before the trade deadline in 2018.
Multiple outlets have the Padres farm system ranked No. 1 in the sport. The system is headlined by consensus Top 5 prospect, shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. The 19-year-old hit .286/.355/.507 with 22 doubles, four triples, 16 home runs, 43 RBI and 16 stolen bases in 88 Double-A games last year for the San Antonio Missions.
Padres prospects LHP MacKenzie Gore, C/OF Francisco Mejia, INF Luis Urias, RHP Chris Paddack, LHP Adrian Morejon, RHP Michel Baez, LHP Logan Allen, RHP Luis Patino and LHP Ryan Weathers are all in MLB Pipeline’s Top 100 MLB prospects.
Syndergaard, 26, went 13-4 with a 3.03 ERA, 2.80 FIP, 1.21 WHIP and 3.97 SO/W in 154.1 innings for the Mets in 2018. He posted a 4.0 bWAR and 4.2 fWAR over his 25 starts.
The right-hander is arbitration eligible this offseason and is under team control through the 2021 season.
