After the Mets trade for Robinson Cano and Edwin Diaz is completed, the obvious question is what the Mets will do next to build the 2019 roster into a World Series contender. Surprisingly, the answer to that question may just be the Mets pulling off a second blockbuster deal this offseason.
In an appearance on MLB Network, Ken Rosenthal reported he expected the Mets next move is to trade Noah Syndergaard. Specifically, Rosenthal said the Mets are trying to “get Major Leaguers back if they can or minor leaguers back they can flip for Major League help.”
At the moment, the Mets still have holes to address in their bullpen and at catcher. Additionally, the Mets will also likely look for upgrades in center field, third base, and on their bench. If they were to trade Syndergaard, they would also have to add at least one other starter to their rotation.
If anything, it seems like Brodie Van Wagenen is going to be very aggressive this offseason, and he is going to pursue all avenues he can in order to make the 2019 Mets a true contender.
