Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic notes that if current Mets manager Mickey Callaway is fired, former Met Carlos Beltran would be a name to watch in the new-hire process.

Beltran, 42, interview for the Yankees managerial gig back in 2017 and was named a special adviser to Yankees GM Brian Cashman the next year.

The future Hall of Famer played parts of seven seasons with the Mets start in 2006 after signing a seven-year, $119 million deal. He was a five-time All-Star with the Mets and currently third in franchise history among position players with 31.1 bWAR.

Beltran finished his 20-year major league career with 69.6 bWAR between the Royals, Yankees, Mets, Rangers, Astros, Cardinals, and Giants.

Rosental also noted that Beltran played in Kansas City under current Mets assistant GM Allard Baird and played in Flushing under current Mets assistant to the GM Omar Minaya as well. Though, Beltran has no managerial experience.

Buck Showalter, Joe Girardi, and Jose Espada are among the names previously mentioned as potential replacements for Callaway.
