Earlier this week, Mets infielder Amed Rosario was given a mental break to work through his on-field struggles, especially his offensive ones.

In the mean time, he worked with hitting coach Pat Roessler to clean up his mechanics and work on his plate approach. In 76 games, he has hit just .244/.281/.362 in 262 plate appearances.

A main struggle for him has been that on-base percentage, which has come from his lack of patience at the dish. However, perhaps he kept his chats with Roessler in mind Friday night as he drew three walks.

“There were some close pitches in there, he laid off of them,” Mets manager Mickey Callaway said. “He did a great job. He’s trying to implement that plan our hitting coaches put in place for him. They worked on it on his three days off, and tonight I thought it really paid dividends.”

Prior to Rosario’s call-up last season, he was the Mets consensus top prospect and one of the best in baseball, however, his transition to the Majors hasn’t been so seamless.

Rosario has had trouble consistently getting things going at the dish and has looked uncomfortable out in the field at times.

However, he still is just 22-years-old and has shown flashes of the player he can hopefully one day be.

While three walks isn’t exactly the most exciting thing, it is a step in the right direction for Rosario. If he can learn to be more selective at the dish, he will get on base more and will see better pitches to hit and drive.
