Over the last 30 days, the New York Mets middle infield and 1-2 spots in the lineup of Amed Rosario and Jeff McNeil has been one of the best in baseball.
May sound crazy, but seriously they have.
In that time span, Rosario’s 1.1 fWAR ranks fourth among major league shortstops behind only Trevor Story, Xander Bogaerts and Manny Machado. He’s had 121 plate appearances during that time, slashing .339/.364/.487 with 134 wRC+ and eight stolen bases.
Rosario has found success with a 29.6% line drive rate (20.7% for the season) at the plate and has also shown improvement defensively.
The strong stretch has the 22-year-old Rosario up to .259/.299/.384 with 84 wRC+ and 1.4 fWAR on the season in 131 games.
McNeil’s 0.8 fWAR is tied for fifth among MLB second baseman from August 7 to September 5 behind Jed Lowrie, Scooter Gennett, David Fletcher and Whit Merrifield. The 26-year-old hit .307/.358/.416 with 116 wRC+ and four stolen bases.
During this stretch, McNeil has been almost impossible to strikeout out. His 6.4% strikeout rate since August 7 is not only the best among second baseman but only Jean Segura (5.4%) struck out at a lower rate in all of baseball in that time.
McNeil is hitting .321/.385/.463 with a 136 wRC+ and 1.4 fWAR in his first 41 games of big league experience.
