MLB: Miami Marlins at New York Mets

Left-handed reliever Mike Dunn and the Colorado Rockies have agreed to a three-year, $19 million deal and an option for a fourth year at $6 million. The Dunn deal has continued a trend this season in which relievers across the board have been getting larger than expected free agent deals.

The first domino in the lefty reliever market to fall was Brett Cecil, who got four years, $30.5 million for the St. Louis Cardinals in November.

Earlier in the offseason, Mets reliever Jerry Blevins was said to have wanted a three-year deal worth $5 – $6 million annually. Based upon the free agent contracts already given out, Blevins stands a fairly good chance of getting a contract worth that much.

With the Mets already stating they are not interested in a multi-year deal for relievers, their chances of re-signing Blevins took another hit with the Dunn deal.

If the Mets are still interested in a left-handed reliever, there are other options available with Chris Capuano, Charlie Furbush, J.P. Howell, Boone Logan, Javier Lopez, Clayton Richard, and Travis Wood still unsigned.
