Mets manager Luis Rojas announced on his WFAN appearance on Wednesday, that right-hander Robert Gsellman will start against the Nationals tonight. Rojas also noted that Gsellman will be stretched out to stay in that role.

The Mets rotation has been decimated with Noah Syndergaard needing Tommy John surgery in March, Marcus Stroman opting out, and Michael Wacha recently being placed on the injured list.

Gsellman has just one appearance this year after missing the start of the shortened season with triceps tightness. The 27-year-old pitched a scoreless inning with two strikeouts in his season debut on Saturday.

The former 13th round pick will be making his first big league start since 2017. Gsellman had a 5.29 ERA in 22 starts during the 2017 season.
