rick ankiel

According to Cardinals announcer Dan McLaughlin, Rick Ankiel has retired from baseball.

Rick started his baseball career as a pitcher in the Cardinals organization, and is notorious for melting down and suffering from Steve Sax syndrome in the 2000 postseason.

He later transitioned to an outfielder, and returned to the majors in 2007, enjoying success with the Cardinals, and then bounced around the majors with stops in Kansas City, Atlanta, Washington, Houston and New York.

Rick signed with the Mets last May and spent a month with the team before being released in June. Rick is now seeking a front office job in the MLB.

We wish you the best in your retirement, Rick.
