Charles Hollon of Gotham Baseball spoke with Chris Leible, the agent for Jose Reyes who offered up some words of hope regarding his client’s preference to stay with the Mets.

“I think Jose is one of those rare players that feeds off the energy of the fans, he loves the fans here in New York and I believe that feeling is mutual.” Leible said. “Jose also has a keen sense of his history here with the Mets, he’d love to be a Met for life.

“Time will tell.”

When pressed, Chris stated that he really doesn’t have a sense of where Jose will sign for 2012 and beyond.

“We’re going into it with eyes wide open, His first choice has always been to stay here with the Mets.”

It was interesting to learn that Leible once interned with the Mets in the scouting department. Check out the full story, it’s a very good read.

Speaking of the scouting department, this:

The Padres are expected to name Chad MacDonald as their new vice president and assistant general manager, a major-league source told FOXSports.com.

MacDonald had most recently worked as the amateur scouting director of the New York Mets. He will now replace Jason McLeod, who left his front-office post with the Padres to join Jed Hoyer in the Chicago Cubs front office.

Tommy Tanous is expected to replace MacDonald and has previously worked in the Mets organization as a special assistant.
