New York Mets infielder Jose Reyes spoke to the press before Sunday afternoon’s season finale versus the Miami Marlins and acknowledged that today would most likely be his final game with the organization.

In a video posted by Anthony DiComo of MLB.com, Reyes gave some insight as to where he is in the process of contemplating retirement and seemed to be looking at the situation in a positive, yet realistic way.

“I have to wait for the season to be over and decide what I’m going to do. My body feels good though. I feel like I can still play”

When asked if the emotion of Saturday night’s game gave him any inclination to go out on that high-note, Reyes was noncommittal.

“I don’t think that way. I don’t want to say one thing now and then when the offseason comes, I say I want to still play,” he said. “That hasn’t gone through my mind yet. I just want to take it day by day after the season.”

Reyes was then asked how he would remember his time with the Mets if this is his last game with the team he’s spent the majority of his career with.

“[I want to be remembered] as a player who always gave everything that he had to this team and this organization. Every time I take that field, I play 110 percent and try to do my best.”

Reyes, 35, has a slash line of .282/.334/.433 with 521 RBI and a 104 OPS+ in 1,364 career games with the Mets. He’s hitting just .189/.261/.322 in 227 at-bats in 2018. Reyes is a free agent at the end of the season.

As per reports, the Mets will pull Jose Reyes out of the game early today in order to give him a sendoff of his own.
