Ahead of Sunday afternoon’s series finale against Philadelphia, the New York Mets reportedly made a flurry of roster moves:

  • José Butto recalled
  • Nate Fisher selected
  • Rob Zastryzny optioned
  • Stephen Nogosek to the injured list (left-oblique strain)
  • Sam Clay designated for assignment

Furthermore, Patrick Mazeika was also claimed by the San Francisco Giants.

Butto is slated to make his MLB debut. He is the Mets’ 15th ranked prospect according to MLB Pipeline. Butto has made 20 starts spanning 98 1/3 innings pitched between the Double-A (92 1/3 innings) and Triple-A (six innings) levels. He owns a 4.12 ERA and is striking out batters at the highest rate of his professional career (111 strikeouts over 98 1/3 innings pitched).

Fisher, who is a tremendous story, has pitched 72 innings between Double-A and Triple-A this season. He has a cumulative 3.38 ERA, and an even more impressive 3.12 mark at the Triple-A level. Fisher is a pitch-to-contact type, as the only 31 strikeouts in 43 1/3 Triple-A innings pitched indicates.

Zastryzny pitches a single inning during last night’s 4-1 defeat against the Phillies. He allowed a Kyle Schwarber triple thanks in large part to a misplay in left field. That run later scored in the inning after Zastryzny exited. He has a 3.61 ERA for Syracuse (Triple-A) this season.

Nogosek threw 43 pitches last night in the loss to Philadelphia. He struck out two and only allowed one hit lowering his MLB-season ERA to 2.79. Analytics do paint a picture that he is due for some regression (4.22 xERA, 5.50 FIP, 5.17 xFIP), though he has valuably eaten some innings for the Mets this season. When exiting the game, it did not appear there were any issues, though he has evidently been diagnosed with a left-oblique strain resulting in a trip to the injured list.

The left-handed Clay threw an inning in the 8-2 game one victory for New York on Saturday. He struck out Bryson Stott and Schwarber in addition to allowing an earned run. He now has a 8.44 ERA in 5 1/3 MLB innings pitched this season. He has a 3.90 ERA in 30 Triple-A innings pitched this season.
