According to The Athletic’s Marc Carig and Andrew Marchand, SportsNet New York (SNY) has cancelled both “Baseball Night in New York” and “SportsNite” while also laying off most of its editorial staff and shuttering its website.

“SNY, the regional sports network that broadcasts New York Mets games, has canceled the programs Baseball Night in New York and Sportsnite, sources told The Athletic,” Carig and Marchand wrote. “The network on Friday also shuttered its website and laid off much of its editorial staff.

“The moves take effect immediately. SNY declined comment.”

Carig and Marchand noted that SNY will still put out pre- and postgame shows for both the Mets and New York Jets in addition to keeping the “Mets Hot Stove” show on-air.

They added that Chelsea Janes, Ian Begley and Connor Hughes, all of whom are on-air contributors for the network, will stick with SNY.

SNY, which launched in March 2006, has broadcasted Mets games for the last 20 years while also airing programming relating to the club and other local sports teams, both on the professional and collegiate levels.

“SportsNite” had been an SNY staple since its inception, as it recapped all of the pertinent news and topics relating primarily to New York sports, though it will no longer air on the network.

The same goes for “Baseball Night in New York”, which premiered in November 2015, and now SNY’s website has also been “shuttered”.

SNY is currently owned by Sterling Entertainment Enterprises, which is a joint venture between Sterling Equities, Charter Communications and Comcast. Former Mets owner Fred Wilpon is a co-founder of Sterling Equities, though he left the firm in September (per Long Island Business News).
