Former Mets general manager Sandy Alderson is likely to return to the Mets in some capacity, according to Andy Martino of SNY.

This comes as a result of the ownership change that was recently confirmed, and will be one of likely many organizational moves that come under Steve Cohen’s tenure.

Martino notes that Alderson’s role will “probably not” be as GM. It is still unclear whether Brodie Van Wagenen is going to get the boot or not as Cohen takes over.

Alderson was originally hired by the Mets after the 2010 season, replacing Omar Minaya in the GM’s seat. He took a leave of absence in July 2018 due to a recurrence of cancer.

Of course, the Mets won the 2015 pennant under his management, and he drafted players such as Michael ConfortoPete AlonsoBrandon Nimmo and Dominic Smith.

Regardless of what his new role turns out to be (if he does indeed come back), the Mets would certainly be happy to bring back a familiar face.
