The Washington Nationals are signing right-handed pitcher Trevor Williams to a two-year deal per Mark Zuckerman of MASN sports. Stephen Nesbitt of The Athletic reports that the two-year deal is worth $13 million.

The Mets did show interest in bringing Williams back after a good 2022 season, though the Nationals represent a better chance for Trevor to start.

The San Diego native is coming off one of his best major league seasons when he posted a 3.21 ERA in 89 2/3 innings in 2022. Williams worked in every role for the Mets giving them nine starts when they needed it, long relief outings, and even a few high leverage late inning outings.

Williams came to the Mets in a 2021 trade deadline deal that also brought infielder Javier Báez to New York and sent top center field prospect Pete Crow-Armstrong to Chicago.
