After months of waiting,  New York Mets prospect Ronny Mauricio is reportedly finally getting the call to the big leagues.

The Mets are set to call up the team’s No. 8 prospect on Friday when the rosters expand to 28, as first reported by Daniel Álvarez-Montes of El Extrabase and confirmed by Joel Sherman of The New York Post.

Mauricio, a switch-hitter who was originally signed by the Mets in 2017,  was promoted to Triple-A this season, where he has produced a 20-20 season while slashing .292/.346/.506 slash line with a .852 OPS. He has 23 home runs with 30 doubles, three triples,  76 runs scored, and 71 RBIs. Mauricio has also shown off his ability on the base paths during his season, with 24 stolen bases. Mauricio currently has a career-best 6.6% walk rate and his strikeout rate is down to 18.2%. He leads the International League with 143 hits this season.

After slumping in June and July, Mauricio has been red hot in August, where he has had a hit in 20 of 24 games played. This month, Mauricio has slashed .303/.373/.586 with a 131 wRC+. Mauricio also has eight steals in August to go along with 11 walks, which are both career highs.

Although he primarily has been a shortstop in his minor-league career, Mauricio has also played second base, third base, and left field for Triple-A Syracuse this season. Combined, he has 23 errors at the four different positions, which has caused some to question his defensive readiness. With Francisco Lindor locked in as the everyday shortstop, it will be interesting to see where the Mets play Mauricio regularly. He has played his last 12 games at second base.

When Mauricio joins the Mets on Friday, the team will be opening a three-game series against the Seattle Mariners at home at Citi Field.
