In an article by MLB.com‘s Mark Feinsand, he reported that the Mets’ new president of baseball operations, David Stearns, is “actively trying to trade for more starting pitching.”

The Mets’ off-season starting rotation acquisitions include Luis SeverinoAdrian Houser, and most recently, Sean Manaea. After seemingly falling out of the race for Japanese starter Shōta Imanaga and not being in the mix for big-time free agents Blake Snell and Jordan Montgomery, it appears as though they will explore the trade market. However, Feinsand notes that whether the Mets are looking for a top-of-the-line rotation piece or just rotational depth remains to be seen.

The Mets are reportedly among several teams who have been checking in on White Sox ace Dylan Cease, but it is still unknown if the Mets will go up to the “three premium prospect” asking price that Chicago has set. In addition, the Marlins have shopped Jesus Luzardo, who might command a similar package to Cease. The Mets have used the trade market to fill one of their rotation’s holes by bringing in Adrian Houser, and it seems like they will continue to go down that avenue to put together their club.
