Mike Puma of the New York Post reports that the Mets have been in discussions with the agent for former Met Justin Turner.

Turner makes sense for the Mets as they look for third base depth following the potential season-ending injury to Ronny Mauricio. Turner would also give the Mets an option at DH and depth at first base behind Pete Alonso, too.

Turner, 39, had a .276/.345/.455 slash line with 23 homers and 96 RBIs in 146 games for the Boston Red Sox this year. He was the DH for the Red Sox in 98 games, played first base 41 times, second base 10 times, and third base 7 seven times in 2023.

Turner played in parts of four seasons with the Mets before he was non-tendered in 2013. He has hit .293/.371/.486 with 266 doubles and 179 home runs since the Mets non-tendered him.

Mets president of baseball operations David Stearns has targeted Turner before in free agency but was never able to get Justin to sign with the Brewers.
