The Mets’ front office search has been met with quite a bit of resistance, whether it’s potential candidates withdrawing themselves from consideration, or opposing teams not granting New York permission to speak to certain executives. According to Andy Martino of SNY, though, the Mets got a little bit of a breakthrough regarding Boston Red Sox Executive Vice President/Assistant General Manager, Raquel Ferreira.

This is great news. Now, the next hurdle for the Mets to jump over is to actually get this conversation to happen, assuming she’s interested in the opportunity, as MLB insider Jon Heyman oh so eloquently puts it.

As MMO’s Michael Mayer mentioned last week, Ferreira has been with Boston for the last 23 years and currently reports directly to Chaim Bloom. Mayer also mentioned in a recent episode of the Get Metsmerized Podcast that many people in the industry have reached out to him saying she’d be a great fit for the opening in Queens.

Ferreira has played an integral part in Boston’s recent successes over the past couple of decades after first joining the organization in 1999 as an administrative assistant. She started working her way up the ladder in 2003 when Theo Epstein promoted her to be the Director of Minor League Administration. She became just the third female vice president of baseball operations in MLB history when she earned that promotion in late 2014. When Dave Dombrowski was fired in 2019, she was also part of the interim leadership team that held things down before Bloom was hired. Once that happened, she moved into her current role/title after signing a multi-year contract.

After weeks of seemingly spinning their wheels with this front office search, it’s nice to see the Mets reportedly get an opportunity to make some progress. We’ll see how it goes from here.
