Mike Puma of the New York Post provided an update on the New York Mets’ ongoing search for a general manager on Saturday, naming Boston Red Sox assistant GM Zack Scott and Arizona Diamondbacks assistant GM Jared Porter as “likely” finalists.

Scott’s been in the Red Sox organization since 2004, joining the team as an intern and advancing until being named the team’s executive vice president and assistant general manager ahead of the 2020 season.

With a background in statistical analysis, Scott’s duties including oversight of Boston’s baseball analytics, baseball systems, and professional scouting departments.

Porter, a Theo Epstein disciple, made his bones in Boston, as well, spending 12 seasons (2004 to 2015) with the Sox, finishing his tenure as the team’s director of professional scouting before moving on to Chicago to take the same position (with a special assistant designation) with Epstein’s Cubs.

Porter’s been in Arizona since 2017 as the team’s senior vice president and assistant GM, assisting D-Backs GM Mike Hazen “on all facets of the organization”, per his profile on the team website.

Puma names Marlins president of baseball operations Michael Hill, Oakland assistant GM/director of player personnel Billy Owens, and former Mets executive J.P. Ricciardi as “other finalists” and notes a “possible resolution this weekend”.
