Per Francys Romero of Beisbol FR, the Mets have acquired Andy Ibáñez from the Athletics. Ibáñez has struggled in his first eleven games of the season, but he is a career .252/.303/.385/.688 hitter. Ibáñez, 33, has experience at each infield position as well as the corner outfield spots, but second base has been his best defensive position.

Ibáñez has not shown off much power in his career, but has always shown plus contact skills. In 2025, his 88.8% zone contact rate was in the 88th percentile, his 18.5% whiff rate in the 88th percentile, and his 13.5% strikeout rate in the 93rd percentile.

Ibáñez is out of minor league options, so he will need to be placed on the major league roster.

Newly called up Eric Wagaman, alongside Brett BatyMJ MelendezCarson Benge, and Ronny Mauricio, all have options. Mark Vientos does not have an option.
