According to Houston Fox Sports Director Mark Berman, Michael Brantley is not changing teams after all, as he has agreed to return to the Astros. Berman reports that Brantley is signing a two-year, $16 million deal with the Houston Astros. ESPN‘s Buster Olney confirmed Berman’s report as well.

This news comes after multiple MLB insiders reported that Brantley had an agreement with the Toronto Blue Jays earlier in the day. We later learned that no agreement was actually in place and now we know why, as Brantley has instead chosen to return to Houston for his third season with the Astros.

The Toronto Blue Jays may not have a deal done with Michael Brantley after all. According to MLB insider Jeff Passan of ESPN, the Blue Jays do not yet have an agreement in place for Brantley. They could still end up signing the free agent, but as of know there are still other teams interested in Brantley’s services.

We will keep you post as more information becomes available.

The Toronto Blue Jays continue to be aggressive in free agency, as they have made some significant signings in the last 24 hours. Last night, Toronto signed George Springer to a six-year, $150 million deal and now they have an agreement with his former teammate Michael Brantley.

Television host and sports broadcaster Hazel Mae was the first to break the news, reporting that the Blue Jays are in agreement with Brantley on a three-year deal, pending a physical.

Brantley has spent the last two seasons with the Houston Astros, after playing 10 seasons with the Cleveland Indians at the start of his career. Over his time in Houston, Brantley hit .309/.370/.497, with a 840 OPS and a 126 OPS+.

While his best days in the outfield are behind the soon-to-be 34-year-old, Brantley could get a considerable amount of playing time as the Blue Jays designated hitter. It is also worth noting that Springer and Brantley are great friends, with the Athletic‘s Ken Rosenthal having previously reported that they could be signed together as a package deal.

By signing both Springer and Brantley, the Blue Jays now feature one of the most potent lineups in the American League.
