Drew pomeranz

According to Dennis Lin of the San Diego Union-Tribune, the Padres have a deal in place that will send pitcher Drew Pomeranz to the Red Sox for top prospect Anderson Espinoza.

Pomeranz, 27, was acquired by the Padres from the Athletics back in December, and has seen his value soar as of late, so the Padres chose to sell high on the southpaw.

Pomeranz was enjoying a fantastic season for the Friars, and appeared in his first all-star game just two days ago. Pomeranz has pitched to an 8-7 record with a 2.47 ERA and a .184 BAA in 17 games started.

In return, the Padres are set to acquire right-handed pitching prospect Anderson Espinoza, who Keith Law just ranked as the No. 14 best prospect in baseball on his updated Top 50 prospects list.

So, the first big domino has fallen on the trade front this July. I’m very excited to see who will be on the move next…
