According to Jon Heyman of Fan Rag Sports, the Boston Red Sox have scouted New York Mets infielder Wilmer Flores in addition to the previously reported Asdrubal Cabrera and T.J. Rivera.

The Red Sox missed out on third base target Todd Frazier when he was traded to the New York Yankees late on Tuesday night.

According to Michael Silverman of the Boston Herald, the Red Sox are interested in Asdrubal Cabrera and T.J. Rivera to be their third baseman.

They are also interested in Pittsburgh’s David Freese and Josh Harrison, San Francisco’s Eduardo Nunez, Miami’s Martin Prado, and White Sox third baseman Todd Frazier.

Cabrera, who publicly asked to be traded just a few weeks ago, is the far more likely trade candidate out of the two Mets. He has hit .250/.333/.408 with nine home runs and 29 RBIs, posting a 100 wRC+. He has played one Major League game at the hot corner, but after picking up on second base very quickly, it’s quite possible he would be an average third baseman. The Red Sox would be trading for his bat, though.

T.J. Rivera is far less likely to be traded as he has been excellent for the Mets and could fit into their future plans at either second or third base. He will likely fetch a bigger package from the Red Sox, so it all depends on how much they are willing to offer.

Rivera has hit .303/.348/.459 with a 115 wRC+ in 64 games this season while playing all over the field – he can play third base, second base, first base, and left field while providing consistent offense.
