The New York Mets (52-61) defeated the Philadelphia Phillies (42-71) by a score of 7-6 on Friday night at Citizen’s Bank Park. The Mets’ No. 2 prospect Dominic Smith made his MLB debut and picked up his first career hit.

Pitching

Seth Lugo (5-3, 4.55 ERA) took the hill for the Mets, looking to help his team win back-to-back games for the first time since July 24-25. He didn’t exactly help as he went 5 1/3 innings and gave up eight hits, four walks, and five runs while striking out eight. He did leave the game with the lead at the time, however.

Josh Smoker replaced Lugo in the sixth inning to get the final two outs. He gave up a RBI groundout before being swapped for Paul Sewald who got the final out of the inning.

Sewald stayed on for the seventh inning and kept the Phillies scoreless.

Jerry Blevins came in for the eighth and only got one out before giving up the lead on a solo homer from Cesar Hernandez. Hansel Robles replaced him and kept the game tied by getting the final two outs of the inning.

AJ Ramos came on in the ninth for the save and delivered a 1-2-3 inning.

Offense

The Mets offense faced Nick Pivetta (4-7, 5.89 ERA) who gave up eight runs (six earned) in 2 2/3 innings during his last start in Colorado. He didn’t fare much better in this game as he only lasted 4 2/3 innings and gave up six runs (five earned).

Michael Conforto started the scoring for the Mets as he hit a solo homer to center field in the second inning.

Yoenis Cespedes unloaded for a three-run homer in the third inning to give the Mets a 4-3 lead.

After the Phillies tied the game in the bottom of the third, the Mets re-gained the lead in the fifth inning. They did so on RBI singles from Neil Walker and Cespedes.

The Phillies tied the game again in the bottom of the eighth, but Amed Rosario gave the Mets a 7-6 lead in the ninth with a go-ahead home run; his first career MLB home run.

Cespedes turned in a solid performance as he finished 2-for-5 with a run scored and four RBI. Rosario had his first career multi-hit game as he finished 3-for-4 with three runs scored and one RBI.
