The Mets snapped their four-game winning streak Sunday afternoon as they fell to the Reds 10-5 at Citi Field.

Pitching

Jacob deGrom struggled early, but was able to settle down Sunday afternoon. deGrom lasted six innings and allowed two runs on three hits while striking out ten. DeGrom joined Tom Seaver and Dwight Gooden in being the only Mets pitchers to strike out 10+ batters ten times in a single season.

Paul Sewald struggled in the seventh, as he was only able to retire two batters. Sewald allowed a game-tying three-run home run to Zack Cozart before being pulled.

Jerry Blevins came on in relief of Sewald and allowed a hit, but was able to get out of the inning unscathed.

Jeurys Familia allowed the Reds to score the go-ahead runs in the eighth inning as he retired only two of the seven batter he faced. Familia allowed a two-run double to Tucker Barnhart, giving the Reds a 7-5 lead. Familia has a 7.88 ERA with six walks in eight innings since returning from the disabled list.

Josh Smoker came on in relief of Familia and retired Joey Votto with the bases loaded.

Hansel Robles pointed towards the sky one more time, as Tucker Barnhart put the game away with a three-run home run in the top of the ninth.

Hitting

In the first, Jose Reyes and Nori Aoki led off the game with back-to-back hits. Reyes scored the Mets first run of the game when Travis d’Arnuad grounded out to bring him home.

Dominic Smith has been seeing the ball a lot better as of late. In the third, Smith singled home Brandon Nimmo to tie the game at two.

Smith struck again in the bottom of the sixth as he gave the Mets the lead at the time with a solo homer to right. Smith now has five home runs since being called-up, and is hitting .273 with five extra-base hits and eight RBI’s in the month of September.

Reyes extended the Mets lead to 5-2 with his second hit of the day, a two run double to right.

Amed Rosario went 1-for-3 with a walk and a strike out in his return to the lineup.
