According to a report on Mets.com, former Mets manager Joe Frazier died on Tuesday in Broken Arrow, Okla., at age 88, according to the New York Times.
Frazier managed the Mets for the entire 1976 season and 45 games of the ’77 season, spanning most of the time between Yogi Berra and Joe Torre. Frazier’s Mets went 86-76 in his first season at the helm, but stumbled to a 15-30 record in his second campaign, which led to his dismissal. He never managed another Major League club, retiring with a cumulative record of 101-106.
Frazier was a right fielder in his playing days. He spent parts of four seasons in the Major Leagues as a player, and had a .241 average with 10 home runs. A native of Liberty, N.C., Frazier was born on Oct. 6, 1922. He is survived by his wife, three children and six grandchildren.
